Do you ever feel like the bond you have with your dog could use well, a little bonding? Like many of us, you may have a busy life and you may feel as though, between the workdays and the grocery shopping trips, it can be hard to spend quality time with your pooch.
Good news! We have compiled a list of some techniques you can add to your weekly routines to ensure you get as much pup love as possible.
1. COMMUNICATION IS KEY
Just talk to them! It's no secret that dogs love attention in all forms. Even if you may not be able to give your dog your undivided attention all the time, try to get in the habit of talking out loud while doing tasks around the house such as cleaning, cooking, folding laundry, etc.
You may not be able to spend quality time with your dog while you grumble at having to make dinner, but your dog will appreciate you talking him through the steps in the recipe while you cook. Who knows what tasty ingredients may fall!
2. EXERCISE TOGETHER
Have routine workout sessions. One of the easiest and most popular ways to get in quality time with your pup is to include them in your workout routines! Whether that means walking, running, or even running errands for the day, your dog will be thrilled at the chance to take part in exercising with their best friend.
Plus, this is a great way to ensure you stay active as well! Check out YouTube or google exercises for humans and their dogs for ideas on how to get active in a way that's fun and safe for you and your pet.
3. FIND PET-FRIENDLY PLACES/EVENTS
Visit pet-friendly places. With so many pet-friendly coffee shops, dedicated doggie parks, bookstores, and even bars and taverns that allow you to bring your pet, there’s no reason to leave them at home!
Did we mention retail stores? Now, that’s a big plus. Call ahead to check that dogs are allowed on the premises.
4. TRADE SCREENS FOR SOCIAL TIME
Schedule playdates with fellow dog owners. Trade the screens for social time and find a fellow pooch pal or group! Schedule a pup play date at a park, go on a hike or just plan a simple dog-friendly social gathering with friends or family members as an easy way to connect, stay active and have fun with your dog and other dogs!
5. THANK GOODNESS FOR TECH
Bond even while apart. The reality is we can't always take our pets with us everywhere. It's heartbreaking saying goodbye on our way to work, but thankfully technology now allows us to check in with our pets from the moment you leave to the moment you return home!
Easy-to-install and use pet cameras allow you to monitor your pet's activity from an app on your phone- some even allow you to talk to your pet or even throw small treats so you're never too far from your pet.
Building a good relationship with your dog takes time, trust, and the right tools. Creating micro-moments to improve your bond has never been easier (or cuter) than with Wüfers cookies!
